Summer is just around the corner and I wanted to share some of our favorite area summer activities!
1. Bike Trails
A few of our favorite bike trails include the 4.73 mile rail trail from Algood to Cookeville, it is a easy ride with smaller kids and doesn't have much elevation change . We also enjoy the loop around cane creek park that always ends with a few minutes of playtime on one of the three playgrounds there. Occasionally we will visit defeated creek campground in Carthage, TN for it's mountain bike trail!
2. Ice Cream
So if you end up biking the rail trail from Algood to Cookeville, there is a great place to stop for ice cream, Cream City! We frequent this place and enjoy the ability to sit outside and walk around downtown with our cones. Also, we recently found out that on the 31st of each month Baskin Robbins has one scope ice creams for $1.50 on that day! And finally if you haven't had a "silly old bear" scope of ice cream from The Lazy Cow Creamery, then you are missing out!
3. Dogwood Park
We love dogwood park for so many reasons! The fact that our community built this playground by it's own funds and helping hands makes it a pretty amazing place on it's own. The playground was designed to be handicap accessible and for all children to enjoy. The fountain is great place to let your kids cool off and have a picnic on the grounds. Be sure to visit the fountain of the day and of the night to see it illuminated with colorful lights.
4. Burgess Falls/Cummins Falls
We love a good waterfall! Burgess falls has 2 trails to view the waterfalls. One is a service road that provides a shady and easy walk to the over look the other is a trail through the woods. Last time we were at Burgess Falls a park ranger told us that this falls is so unique because it comes to a point as most falls have a straight across ledge for the water to fall over. And Cummins falls, this is a fun day hike! Be sure to wear proper footwear and check the forecast for rain before arriving. It is a strenuous hike and caution is advised. If our kids are tuckered out by the time we hike down to the water we often end up taking a right at the bottom (taking a left leads you to the falls) and find a not so crowded swimming hole!
5. Local Library
The Putnam County Library summer reading program is a great thing for kids. They have story time, lunches, lego club, movies for the kids to attend! Overall a great program for kids no matter how young or old they are! Check out the details on their website!
We love to swim in one of the many local lakes and rivers! Sunset marina in Pickett County has a great day swim area along with Floating Mill on Center Hill Lake. Both places are great places to pack a lunch and plan to stay for the day. We enjoy canoeing and fishing on Calf Killer River in White County.
7. Farmers Market
As an avid/beginner gardening family. We love trips to the local farmers markets! The Putnam County farmers market is located at 201 Mahler Ave Cookeville, TN and is open Saturday mornings. We love going to see the fruits of other's labor. Every so often we can catch a sample of some fresh produce!
I'd love to hear what events and places your family enjoys in the Upper Cumberland! Please share below!
When you hear the market is HOT it means different things for the seller, the buyer and the real estate professional.
For sellers this means that property is selling fast. It means that a lot of properties have multiple offers and often under contract within days of hitting being listed. It means that inventory is low and that if you are thinking about selling your home, the time is now.
For buyers, this means about the same as it does for sellers (see above paragraph) but more than that it means low inventory comes a limited opportunity to wait for you to decide if this is the home for you, time is of the essence for buyers in a HOT market. Be sure to sit down with a real estate agent who can guide you through this process.
For the real estate agent, this means to help our sellers sell, they need to be ready for a quick, fast paced transaction. For our buyers it means we need to be taking extra time to get to know our clients and their criteria so that when a home hits the market that meets our client's needs we are able to assist our in clients making a prompt and sound decision.
